Art History
The Hallway of Thoughts
This picture shows some of my art inspiration. I am influenced by a modern retro art movement that is often very ironic in meaning or sarcastic in a sense. The girl in the hallway is a retro girl, but her hair and little girl attitude is in contrast with her character (her hair is very "out there") and who I envisioned her to be. The retro movement inspired me, but I am also inspired by zentangle, a "cartoony" style, watercolors, and bright colors. These different art styles movements/elements are very impactful to me because they really resonant with my personality and who I am. Bright colors show my exuberant personality, zentangle is a bit more complex and kind of goes to show the complexity of who I am/who people are in my perspective, watercolors are very impactful to me because they are flowy and don't have to be neat and very detailed to look beautiful in artwork, cartoony style is impactful to me because it can often be an exaggeration of what people look like and their physical features can be changed to over-emphasize something, and the retro movement is impactful to me because of my love of history. My art is similar to the retro movement in that I often (but not always) use similar pastel colors, and that I like incorporating these historical clothes/fashion/hair/look into my art.

Production
Stranded (Mashup Project)
This mashup project was quite possibly the hardest assignment I have done. Although there are some small details I would have changed if I were to work on it again, this piece is very near and dear to me. Different art styles such as stippling were used in an effort to provide variety while still showing unity. The curves and flow of the "dots" show movement in the sand. These dots were made with the opposite end of a paintbrush. The metal in the work, shown in the sun and wing of the fallen plane, add texture and reflect off of the light. Because a desert is typically hot and sunny, the metal adds emphasis to this aspect when it catches the light. The sun is shown as it usually is in cartoon-ish drawings with basic shapes. There is a lot of desert space, but because of the detail that the dots add, there appears to be less space. With the fallen plane, value has been added with the paintbrush to appear smoother in some areas. Warmer tones are used with contrast added through the cool blue tones.
Although it may appear that because the aviator is alone, things are bleak, but this is meant rather to be inspiring. She (the aviator) is inspired to keep going in spite of everything that has happened. Historical aspects are also included because of my affinity for that particular subject.

Aesthetics
For my aesthetic assignment, I wrote a poem about my mashup project.
