Peace in the Wind
For this assignment I made a pinwheel representing who I am and how I find peace. I have several pictures representing my process. I started with a piece of blue plastic, and painted it gold. I used whiteout, paint, plastic, and silver and black sharpie to make this. I had to carve the paint off to make words.

Thank you for our Freedom
For this assignment, I drew a picture for Operation Grateful Nation. Unfortunately, when I drew this I lost my colored pencils, so the coloring is pretty light.

A Walk Through History with the Qing Dynasty
This project was both very fun, and a bit of a struggle. I chose to make my shoes and to work by myself, which may not have been the best decision, but it worked out for the better. I used cardboard, brown paper, a reused canvas, acrylic and tempera paint and mod podge for this assignment. In the beginning I decided to do sandals, as they were a more modern type of shoe. Then I took a canvas from a previous project and ripped it off of the frame. I painted a design on the other side. After it dried I cut the canvas into 2 forms. I traced my shoe onto a thin and sturdy cardboard material, and then made traces on a thicker cardboard. Because the canvas was too small. I lined it with brown paper. I attached the 2 pieces of cardboard and attached that to the canvas. Afterwards, I decoupaged the sides of the cardboard with brown paper to get rid of the rough sides, and painted the shoe blue. I painted on my information and my cherry trees. To finish it off I added a drawing to the heel.

Underwater Ink
Underwater, shapes look blotchy and like ink spilling in water. For this assignment, I have one straw painting that I did not add to. This painting, called "Friends," uses dark purple to add contrast against a white background. There are many forms which look different to each person who views it. There is texture in the flowy and smooth lines created by the paint. Each person who looks at this will see something different. For example, I see two sea horses looking at each other. I also see a spider and some kind of underwater crawfish.
On the one piece I changed, I outlined the images I saw to add emphasis. For the outlines I added yellow color in contrast to the purple. I also added a floor and water to make it an underwater scene.

The Hallway of Thoughts
This picture shows some of my art inspiration. I am influenced by a modern retro art movement that is often very ironic in meaning or sarcastic in a sense. The girl in the hallway is a retro girl, but her hair and little girl attitude is in contrast with her character (her hair is very "out there") and who I envisioned her to be. The retro movement inspired me, but I am also inspired by zentangle, a "cartoony" style, watercolors, and bright colors. These different art styles movements/elements are very impactful to me because they really resonant with my personality and who I am. Bright colors show my exuberant personality, zentangle is a bit more complex and kind of goes to show the complexity of who I am/who people are in my perspective, watercolors are very impactful to me because they are flowy and don't have to be neat and very detailed to look beautiful in artwork, cartoony style is impactful to me because it can often be an exaggeration of what people look like and their physical features can be changed to over-emphasize something, and the retro movement is impactful to me because of my love of history. My art is similar to the retro movement in that I often (but not always) use similar pastel colors, and that I like incorporating these historical clothes/fashion/hair/look into my art.
From Still Life to Cube Life
For this assignment, we were told to draw a still life as realistically as possible, and then to rework our still life into a cubist work of art. Although I tried my best on both, I definitally enjoyed being able to express my creative side with the cubist work than with the still life. My cubist work represents cubism because I used geometric shapes and curving lines to emphasize the two dimentionality of the canvas while also being creative with using colors and textures. In my cubist piece, I tried to make curving lines where they should be more straight and vice versa. Our instructor also challenged us to use different medias, and I used a lot that I found in the recycling bin. I used a crayon colored recycled pinwheel, yarn, string, cardboard, wood, cloth, paint, glue, oil pastels, paper towels found in the recycling bin, and a dried out markers lid. For things like the marker lid (now the base of a glass) I tried to be creative and disguise the object so that someone would not be able to tell what it originally was. I used pastels and paints to add contrast and the illusion of light hitting it a little bit in certain places. The tan background is made of paper towels decoupaged on. The floor/ base is made of paint, and for the cube and bottle I sued string/yarn that I braided together and got glued on. For my more realistic drawing, I used sketching pencils. It was challenging for me, but I learned a lot about value and shading.

Stranded (Mashup Project)
This mashup project was quite possibly the hardest assignment I have done. There are progress photos leading up to my final version, although if I had more time I would likely change some smaller details.
Elements and principals of art were used in my work in many ways. Movement is used through the curves and flow of the "dots" in the sand. Because of the different paint techniques, texture is shown. Although there is a lot of desert space, there is balance because of the stippling and added details. Warmer tones are used in order to add unity.
This work is about perserverance and determination even when things seem bleak. It is also a reference to the fact that I am very interested in history.

Paper Sculpture
For this assignment, we were given the task of making sculptures out of paper and glue. Into this sculpture, we incorporated our Where's Waldo? sketch assignment, and our Community assignment. (Community assignment not on website)
